Our Fashionista Of The Week

Posted by FroChic on 27/05/2011

Post by: Zama

Our fashionista of the week is Nomalady Samka who is looking ultra chic and ultra trendy with all the seasons must-haves (military jacket, leopard scarf, and high-heeled hiking boots).

She recently did the Big Chop and is rocking a fresh cut….and, very well I must say. We talk to her about her style, why she decided to take the leap and chop her hair off and how she maintains it all.

Explain your style:

“My look is very versatile and on point with all the latest trends”

What inspires your look?

“I get my fashion inspirations from reading fashion magazine and watching a lot of TV”

What statement piece do you think everyone should be rocking this season?

“If people want to be in trend this season, they definitely should be rocking the leopard print, anything from a scarf, belt, bag or jacket”

What made you go natural?

“I was tired of weaves, they are way too overrated and fake; and most importantly I get to save a lot of money because with the money I would use to get my weave done I could just buy myself a new outfit”

What is your hair regime?

“What I love about my hair is that it’s very easy to maintain. I just get up, wash my hair, apply some hair food (Black Chic) brush it and I’m out the door. Simple and easy just how I like it”

Winter Tips To Beat Dry Hair & Skin

Posted by FroChic on 25/05/2011

Ok so the chill and cold gusty dry air has landed on our shores…Arghhh!!! How I hate winter with a passion, it dries me up like a prune taking the last bit of plumpness I have…. and I don’t mean my weight, oh how I wish the effects were reverse, and that it made me super skinny with flawless skin and beautiful shiny hair full of body with no split ends. But reality is here and now we have to do our best to maintain beauty in the dry season. So, here are some tips to keep those dry legs, elbows and hair of course in tip-top shape for winter.

Water

Water plays a vital role in moisturising and for hygienic purpose as well. For a proper start on cleaning out the toxins in your body drink as much water as you can, this will help flush out toxins and nourish your body from the inside out.

Tips for hair: do a pre poo (shampoo) with olive oil or coconut oil and make sure you saturate your hair with the oil. Cover your hair for thirty minutes with a shower cap (this will help the to water to be eaily absorbed into the hair) then get on with your washing rituals, just make sure it includes a wash, preferably with a sulphate-free shampoo. Or you can use a conditioner instead of a shampoo ( yes, it works well!) followed by a deep condition (use a low protein conditioner & shampoo in the winter months) & MOISTURIZE afterwards! Your hair doesn’t need to be shampooed as often as in summer but keep a spray bottle to sprits your hair every now and then — water is key.

Tips for skin; when bathing don’t wash with boiling hot water, this will strip your natural sebum production and it will leave your skin drier than usual. Just use warm water and you can add a few drops of your favourite oil to your bath. This has the same effect on your skin as it does on your hair, the warm water opens up your pores allowing your skin and hair to soak up the moisture from the oil and water.

Exercise

Yes this is the hibernation season but we need to open up our pores on our scalp and body, to allow oxygen in and toxins out. If your pores are clogged, no moisture will get in resulting in flaky scalp and cracked skin. My motivation to keep fit even though it’s so cold, is wanting to make sure I have a big reveal in September, just imagine that *big smile*. Exercise also stimulates your pores on the scalp increasing hair growth.

Oil it up…Moisture!!!

Tips for hair: as I said moisture is key, keep a spray bottle handy filled with water to moisten your hair. Another good moisturizer is Aloe Vera whether it is the pure plant or aloe juice/gel just make sure you are using all natural ingredients, alcohol can be drying. Moisturizing with water alone is not enough so you also have to seal that moisture in. By sealing I mean making sure the moisture does not escape you hair especially with the environment being so dry, it will look for moisture around it, your hair, your skin etc so you need to make sure moisture does not escape. You can use natural oils, which are best, like coconut oil, olive oil, jojoba oil. JO’M Shea butter & beeswax is good to keep moisture from escaping your hair.

Tips for skin; same applies here after having a bath. While skin is still wet smear you cream or lotion and this will help to lock in moisture.

So for the new season I recommend:

*getting a trim

*stocking up on JO’M Shea butter

* Water!!

*a good diet

* Protein low conditioner

* fab beanies to protect you from the cold and to help you accessories your ‘fro…

Then you good to go!! Hope these tips set you right to look fab this winter.

Welcome To The New Season!!

Posted by FroChic on 20/05/2011

Summer has come and gone, time to chuck all your summer gear (short shorts, flip-flops and summer dresses) to the back of your wardrobe  and say hello to the new winter season which is bringing back the retro 60’s and 70’s inspired look.

60’s and 70’s

The 70’s was the year of Faux Fur Gilets, Blouses, and Wide-Legged Trousers, which are all doing a great come back this winter.

(Pair wide-legged pants with killer high heels to create a longer silhouette)

The Maxi Dress is also a 70’s inspired look which isn’t just for summer but a great piece for autumn/ winter.

(The maxi dress is best paired with flat ankle boots and a great knitted cardigan singed in the waist)

The 60’s style is inspired and influenced by the Mad Men’s series which celebrated woman with more of a fuller body, full hips and bountiful bosoms.

They also celebrate the high waisted A-line checked skirt which I’m sure all our mothers had back in the days.

(This look is perfect for someone who loves the vintage look)

My fashion tip for getting this look for cheap: look through your mother’s wardrobe; I’m sure there should be an item or two that could work.

KNITWEAR

Another great trend this winter is the knitwear revolution, from your simple classic camel to modern grunge, this season’s knitwear ranges from chunky cable-knit to more of a softer texture. Shapes range from a sharp to slouchy and to a more modern mix of cool, clean polo necks and preppy sweaters.

(a great look at the moment is the knitted dress, singed at the waist with a thin belt pared with thick stockings or bare (if your brave enough) and  high-heel hiking boots. For more of a comfortable look pair them with flat ankle  boots –perfect for the winter season)

BRIGHT AND BOLD COLOURS

Gone are the days of a typical grey winter, this new season is all about colour, colour and more Colour!!! Bright colour blocks are a big trend this winter straight from the runway.

So if BRIGHT AND BOLD COLOURS excite you then this trend is ideal for you, its all about combining a clash of different colours, ranging from bold orange, electric blues, neon green and yellow. A perfect trend to bring some light and fun into the winter blues and to stand out from the crowd, of course!

But if you feel a clash of BRIGHT COLOURS are too overwhelming, then you need to ease into this trend by wearing various tones of icy blue, rose and vermilion.

(Perfect trend for people who want to be seen!)

ANIMAL PRINT

But if colour does not do it for you but you still want to stand out this winter, then you can’t go wrong with the animal print (leopard print).

Animal print is not only for the cast of Jerseylicious… Animal print is all the range this season, it has a sense of class yet adventure, this trend is not for the faint hearted but if worn right you will be an A-list fashionister this winter.

If full on animal print is too bold for your taste you could take it easy and wear it as a statement piece for example, leopard printed pumps, scarf or bag. This look will keep you in trend and in style.

(This Leopard maxi dress is perfect for someone who wants to create a bold statement)

(These are perfect for an urban but chic look this winter)

Hope this list will help you find your signature look this winter -happy shopping!
